An environmental impact management

A sustainable development requires us to take into account the impact we have on our surroundings and the natural environment on a daily basis. We maintain the highest standards of care for the environment and the resources used at various levels – the implemented technological solutions, products offered and built infrastructure.

We monitor the environmental aspects of our operations on an ongoing basis.

  • We follow-up changes in the law and regulations in this area to meet all market standards.
  • We responsibly manage the operations of our factories, e.g. including monitoring the consumption of natural raw materials and waste management.
  • We implement our own good practices for the protection of natural resources.

This also applies to our products, which not only comply with the highest standards and external regulations, but are also subject to stringent internal environmental safety requirements.

We want as a first step to reduce our climate and environmental impact by minimising our consumption of utilities (water and electricity) and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This area largely requires further analytical and measurement work to enable us to set further ambitious and measurable targets in this area and then implement the most effective solutions.

As part of waste management, we focus primarily on the industrial waste, which constitutes 99% of the company’s waste.

Delivery of our priorities in this area:

  • We implemented a project that translates into a reduction of a sewage volume and water consumption.
  • We ensure that the municipal waste we generate is sent for recycling.
  • We have introduced solutions to send 100% of industrial waste for recycling and reuse.
  • The annual percentage reduction in the amount of municipal waste sent to landfill is 49.5% (for the companies Śnieżka SA and Śnieżka ToC).
We have adopted three priorities in the area of water management:

  • Reduction in industrial water consumption (used for washing equipment and installations).
  • Analysis of reduction possibilities in the field of sanitary water (used in bathrooms and kitchens).
  • Maintaining no leakages.

We introduced new solutions in the area of flushing and cleaning production equipment and installations in our factory in Lubzina. This reduced the amount of industrial water consumption.

We implement solutions to increase our energy efficiency.

Our priorities are being implemented with consideration for:

  • Analysis, design and implementation of a metering and monitoring system for energy consumption (electricity and thermal energy);
  • Analysis of the potential for reducing electricity and thermal consumption;
  • Analysis and implementation of measures aimed at optimising energy consumption in production processes;
  • Energy education of the employees;
  • Building the photovoltaic installations at our sites in Hungary and Ukraine.
„Our priority is to improve energy efficiency and, in the long term, to transform into green energy. All energy purchased by Śnieżka SA comes from renewable sources. At the same time, we have installed photovoltaic systems within the Group’s companies in Hungary and Ukraine.”

In order to comprehensively manage our emissions, we plan to continue measuring a carbon footprint.

Our priorities* will focus on:

  • A 50% reduction in carbon footprint in Scope 1 and 2**.
  • A data acquisition from the suppliers in scope 3.
  • Setting reduction targets for scope 3.

Based on a data collected, we will develop the reduction targets and implement them successively.

„Measuring a carbon footprint is crucial for the sustainable development of Śnieżka. Organizations that measure their emissions gain knowledge in which areas it is possible to introduce the changes to reduce them. We started our carbon footprint calculation process in 2020 with scopes 1 and 2 – by monitoring our organization, we then invited our suppliers and partners to cooperate to gain comprehensive knowledge of our emissions in all 3 scopes.”
